Delighted Dasaolu looking to World stage

James Dasaolu gave his exclusive reaction to becoming European Champion in Zurich, and looks ahead to the remainder of the season.

“My goals at the beginning of the year were to compete in the indoors then look to medal at either the Commonwealths or Europeans,” explained James. “I have three or four races left of my outdoor season and I want to take on this experience forward into competing against the top Jamaicans, Americans and other nationalities to see where I fair against the rest of the world.”

Having competed at the European Championships in Barcelona four years ago, James’ medal is an indication of the progress he has made under coach Steve Fudge since making the switch to him in 2012.

“It was an amazing feeling in the final on Wednesday night and I’m still buzzing about it.”

“Steve (Fudge) is an excellent coach, I’ve gone onwards and upwards. I’ve ran my personal best indoors, and sub-10 outdoors, and now my first senior medal so things are on the right path. I have a really good training group with Adam Gemili, Chris Clarke and Jonny Peacock.”

“For me it was the second time at a European Championships after Barcelona in 2010, when I didn’t even make the final. Four years on I’m came here as a medal contender and won here in Zurich. It was an amazing feeling in the final on Wednesday night and I’m still buzzing about it.”

“I’d like to take the opportunity to thank the fans for all their support. I do read all the supportive tweets and a big thank you to the fans for all their support.”
