James D: Season Review Part Three

We continue our look back on the 2014 season with James Dasaolu.

After becoming European Champion in Zurich, there was still more success to follow for James as he became the first British athlete to win the Continental Cup 100m race since Linford Christie…

“I really wanted to compete at the IAAF Continental Cup. It’s quite a prestigious event that happens every four years”, said James. “It’s slightly different from normal International meets in that you are representing Europe.”

“The atmosphere was really chilled as it was at the end of the season and you could relax with athletes from the other continents.”

“I knew it was going to be a tough race as it had a combination of the Americans and Jamaicans. They are always strong in the sprints. It was going to be a big challenge and comparable to a World Championship final or semi final. So it was really good for me to come away with the win, I was happy with my performance.”

The race brought down the curtain on James’ 2014 season and had the Croydon-born sprinter looking to more success in the future.

“Next year I am looking to run sub-10 again and reach the World Championships final in Beijing.”

“British sprinting is in a great place at the moment. The women’s and men’s are picked up medals in the 100m, 200m and in the relays, across both the Commonwealths and Europeans. It shows that we are starting to make a mark as a sprinting generation.”

“Winning the European Gold and winning the Continental Cup are stepping stones for me. My goal is to be winning medals at the World Championships and Olympic Games, and to hopefully become the quickest Brit of all-time.”

“Next year I am looking to run sub-10 again and reach the World Championships final in Beijing.”
