James Dasaolu

Official statement: Birmingham

Unfortunately we can confirm that James Dasaolu will not compete at Saturday’s Sainsbury’s Indoor Grand Prix in Birmingham due to a viral infection.

The sprinter was due to race in the event as part of his preparation for the outdoor season but has been forced to withdraw through illness.

“I am disappointed not to be running in front of my home crowd,” commented James. “Birmingham is one of my favourite indoor venues.”

“The plan was always to run in two indoor meets as part of my preparation for the outdoor season. However, I have been struggling to shake off a virus and am unable to compete as I would have liked to this weekend.”

Last year, James won the Sainsbury’s Indoor Grand Prix 60m final in 6.50 seconds after winning the semi final in a then World lead of 6.47 seconds.
